After divorcing Nathaniel, Jenny came back to him years later, for revenge. As a world-famous psychiatrist, it's her time to play with him now. She made him only depend on her, that if she wasn't in front of him, he couldn't even breathe properly. He wanted her more than anything. "There are pleasures that even power cannot provide," Jenny whispered in her silky melody voice. Nathaniel, who once hated her and divorced her, stared at her with a bewitching gaze. She leaned in, rosy lips brushing against his ear. "But what if the sweetest revenge is wrapped in the embrace of someone you never saw coming?" Can Jenny play with the fire without getting burned in it herself? Because revenge comes with a cost, and so does temptation? After all, she once loved him. And when she found out the hidden reason why he divorced her years ago...
Jenny's pov ;
"A d-divorce? Why? We're supposed to be a family!" I asked my husband, Nathaniel, even though I already knew the truth.
"I never love you. Stop being dramatic." He let out a humorless laugh. "It was an arrangement. Your father got his share of the profit and I got the company, plus a good-looking wife to improve my bad reputation. The board of directors is in my pocket now. So, I don't need you anymore. I want a divorce."
"Is it because of Ser?" I asked him in frustration. My heart scattered like a million pieces of shattered glass.
I was already aware that he always loved my step-sister Seraphina. He had broken up with her before our marriage in the past because she was just an illegitimate child and his father didn't want him to marry her.
"That's none of your business. Just sign the papers," he said impatiently.
"No, I won't do that, " I exclaimed crying, "I love you, Nath. I sacrifice my career for your company and our family. I know you love my sis, but I still choose to marry you and help you out. If we divorce, my father will withdraw the next round of investment."
Nathaniel suddenly grabbed my jaw in anger, squeezing it tight, forcing my head back to look up at him. His eyes were dark, full of hostility which ached my heart because it was all for me.
"Watch me, you and your fucking father can't threat me anymore. I am the master of this house and you are nothing but a headache that I wanted to get rid of so bad!" he spat furiously, squeezing my jaw painfully.
I cried in pain, "You're hurting me."
I was trying to pull away from him, but his grip was strong. My hands pushed against his chest but in vain. My eyes began to become blurry when his grip suddenly loosened and he pushed me on the floor, throwing the divorce papers at me.
"Jenny, neither of us is happy in this marriage. I have always loved Seraphina. Just sign those papers and leave my life forever."
I coughed many times, clutching my throat, my whole body was trembling. A choked sob escaped my lips and I glanced up at him. My cries turned into whimpers as I looked at my husband who had become so violent I don't even recognise him anymore.
He never loved me, cared for me in my two years of marriage but he had never treated me so brutally. I don't know what has come over him and why he's treating me like this. He never even shouted at me ever, even though he was a bad reputed person in his company for shouting and firing his employees without any reason.
But he never treated me like them. So, why now? Is it all because Ser is back in his life?
"I won't give up," I told him confidently.
Staring at me with dull eyes, an expression I couldn't read he said slowly. "You don't have the guts to fight. You'll meet my lawyer next time."
Seeing the hatred in his eyes, my heart wrecked into never healing back. My eyes flooded with tears. He turned around, walked out, and slammed the door.
I cried and cried, I cried till no sound came out, and my throat felt like sandpaper. Then I fell asleep in tears.
When I woke up the next morning, I knew what I had to do. Even though my heart was scattered, I will still hang on to this marriage.
I took a quick shower, and wore a casual black dress and a pair of black flats, I didn't put on any makeup and my hair was down.
I went to my father's house where Seraphina was waiting for me. She's my stepsister and my husband's true love. They dated for four years in the past.
"Oh, look who's here." Seraphina greeted me with a knowing smile, as if she was mocking me for my messed up situation. She looked more beautiful with her new hairstyle.
I didn't reply, just sat down, poured a cup of tea, and drank it.
"Nathaniel told me the news. You're divorcing. And after what you did for him. What a shame."
I have always considered her as my real sister, but she always saw me as someone who steals her things. She's always hated me.
"Don't tip the balance of my marriage, Ser," I basically pleaded to her.
She laughed and shook her head. "Oh no, darling, this is my moment to shine. Nathaniel is finally mine. I've been waiting for two years."
I looked at her with tears in my eyes. "You're such a wonderful woman, and you deserve so much better, why are you so fixated on my husband?" I asked as my voice cracked.
She shrugged casually, elegantly sipping her black tea. "You were an intruder in our relationship.I just take back my thing. So, don't talk about me ruining your life when it was never happy to begin with."
I glared at her gritting my jaw. "Ser, I never did that. I always considered you as a sister..."
"A sister?" she sneered, rolling her eyes boredly. "Please, don't insult me."
She stole all my boyfriends, never let any attention get to me, and blamed me for getting better grades than her and getting all the attention from Dad. But it was never my intention, I was a lonely kid. I never wanted anything more than a sister.
With a heavy sigh, I pleaded again. "Please, Ser. If you don't come in between in my marriage--"
"Your marriage? There's no such thing. I'm taking him back. And he loves me, he doesn't love you. So, why crying now," She laughed.
"Seraphina, please. I'm begging you. Let me keep my family."
She smiled wickedly. "I have plans. And they include your husband."
"Please, Ser," I desperately begged like a pathetic home wrecker that I was being accused of.
"Shut up! You're annoying," I flinched as she threw the cup which shattered on the floor. "I'll have him and you'll get nothing! You had had your time with him. I broke up with him under duress between two families but Nath was robust enough to shield me, and so he brought me back," She let out angrily.
"He is my husband. My!" I declared, looking up at her through my tear-stained eyes.
She rolled her eyes, crossing her arms in front of her. "Not anymore in a week."
"I'll go now. Nath will come back home," I whispered, getting up from the chair in the living room.
As soon as I had made it to the door, she grabbed my arm and stabbed her belly with a knife. I screamed and tried to break free from her clutch.
My mind blanked out while her blood splashed on my hand.
She smirked. "He'll leave you when I tell him you try to kill me.”
"What?" I muttered in utter shock. This girl has gone crazy.
"JENNY!” My heart began to hammer against my chest when Nathaniel asked in a shocked voice. “What the hell did you do to Ser!?"
